• In order to better understand processes of European integration, this book offers a new perspective that compares past experiences of change to current transitional moments at the European level. It addresses key questions about European society, EU integration and social change to reveal the social construction of emergent polities and societies. -- Studying European integration remains a complex venture both in methodological and theoretical terms, especially when societal changes are considered equally to political and economic changes. In order to gain a better understanding of the diverse processes of European integration, this volume provides a new perspective comparing past experiences of change to current transitional moments at the European level using a unique inter-temporal methodological approach. This new approach aims for a historically informed understanding of European integration that does not simply reproduce national categories.
