Descentralización y populismo [Elektronisk resurs] Desafíos teóricos y metodológicos en la investigación sobre las democracias representativas en América Latina

• In this research advancement certain theoretical and methodological challenges in social scientific research on Latin America are presented. Through the thematic, conceptual and empirical focal points of decentralization and populism, and departing in the political party systems as the core of representative democracy, different –and at times contradictory- analytical perspectives are presented in order to exemplify the possible assignments in research on the complex Latin American societies. Furthermore, the usefulness of the political opportunity structures theoretical approach is emphasized in the context of political transformations and the perspectives of social movements and political parties. Likewise, the article contributes certain methodological suggestions for scholars dealing with issues of social and political processes in Latin America. 
• En este avance de investigación se ofrece una argumentación crítica sobre algunos desafíos teóricos y metodológicos en la investigación sobre las democracias representativas en América Latina. A través de los enfoques temáticos, conceptuales y empíricos de la descentralización y el populismo y considerando a los sistemas de partidos políticos como el fundamento de la democracia representativa, se presentarán diferentes –y a veces contradictorias- perspectivas analíticas que pueden ser relevantes en la investigación sobre las complejas sociedades latinoamericanas. Asimismo se enfatiza la utilidad del modelo teórico de estructuras de oportunidades políticas en la aproximación analítica de transformaciones políticas desde las perspectivas de movimientos sociales y partidos políticos. Igualmente se ofrece algunas sugerencias metodológicas para los investigadores que trabajan los temas de procesos sociales en América Latina.
