  • The book argues that a universally widespread virility currently prevents humans from realizing their sexualities, which are originally the feminine and the masculine. This obstacle may be traced back to Renaissance humanism, whose core intention is to take control over the so-called 'nature.". -- Continental philosophy has yet to grapple seriously with human sexuality. The discipline of gender studies has not bridged this gap. It is inevitable that studies emerge which aim to counterbalance the archaic male domination of the female. These studies are, however, insufficient in helping us understand the archaic origin of human sexuality and the role it plays in shaping us. Sexuality and Globalization is a tentative approach to this topic and related issues. The main obstacle in doing so may be traced back to Renaissance humanism, whose core intention is to take control of 'nature' on the basis of a unilateral and universal virility, which prevents humans from achieving their humanity by preventing a genuine dialogue between the feminine and the masculine. This book aims to facilitate an understanding of the stakes of human sexuality, particularly by revisiting the understanding of Western Jewish and Greek roots.
  • "With daring vulnerability and scope, Laurent Bibard opens us to the sex of our time, to our kind of time in which we incessantly seek to master nature, each other and ourselves. This sex has a religious history. We must step back from our de-sexed modernity into the possibility of recuperating the contradictory duality of masculinity and femininity that constitute us all. Only thus can we reveal our humanness and create a more habitable world." - Roger Friedland, Visiting Professor, Media, Culture and Communication, New York University, USA "Given the way it discusses sexuality as a core issue of civilization, modernity and globalization, Sexuality and Globalization is a stimulating read. Revisiting the relations between yin and yang, feminine and masculine, Laurent Bibard offers an innovative breakthrough in understanding the role of sexes in human history." - Edgar Morin, Sociologist and Philosopher of Emeritus Director of Research at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), France.
